This magical story of the eccentric toymaker Dr. Coppelius and his doll Coppelia is retold with a contemporary twist full of invention. Danced to the magnificent score by Leo Delibes first performed in 1870, with choreography by Ilena Norton, Gregory Gonzales, and Oleg Dedogryuk. In this original version of the ballet, Dr. Coppelius is an eccentric toymaker who falls in love with his creation, the dancing doll Coppelia. Swanilda sneaks into his toy shop full of life-sized modern-day dolls, including a ballerina, pirate, and teddy bear. She and her friends hide the doll Coppelia, and Swanilda dresses up as Coppelia and tries to fool both her boyfriend Franz and Dr. Coppelius with hilarious and touching results. The choreographers blending of traditional steps such as the Mazurka with contemporary movement adds to the excitement. Audiences of all ages will be captivated by this beautiful and entertaining ballet
